Is your Golden ready for the dog park?
Goldens typically are very tender hearted and trusting, so are they ready for the rough and tumble of a big dog who may run and jump on their back?
Some good tips to ask yourself before taking your golden to the dog park:
1. Is your dog protective of it's toys or of you?
2. Does your dog like other dogs chasing them and possibly jumping on them?
3. Does your dog have behavior problems that could cause bigger problems at the park?
If you answer yes to any of these questions, you might want to reconsider and take them through a training class first before entering a dog park. A good training class should help you teach your dog to be a good playmate.
Dog Park Etiquette (Petiquette):
1. If the dog is over 6 months, should be spayed or neutered.
2. All dogs must be licensed.
3. You should plan on supervising your dog's playtime, not reading a book.
4. Bring poop bags and clean up the poo!
5. When you enter the park, take the dog off it's leash right after you enter.
6. Remove all extra gear such as harnesses.
