This year’s Field
Day couldn’t have happened on a more beautiful Fall Day. This year, it was
held
on October 24th with bright sunshine and 77 degree weather. Once
again Missouri Valley Hunt Club hosted
the event. Members Barb Farrel, Val Poulton and Carol Wettengel,
brought their champion Goldens
to show how to retrieve bumpers and ducks on both land and water.
Even Carol’s foster dog,
Trixie (“T” for short) who lost one of her back legs in an accident, was
out there retrieving bumpers out of
the water. She was swimming circles around the other dogs. Who says you
need four legs to be a great water
dog! The Golden’s spent the afternoon racing each other in the water
to see who could retrieve the bumper
first. When everyone finally tuckered out, it was onto the clubhouse
for lunch. Nancy Bowen’s homemade chili
was a big hit and the side dishes and desserts were scrumptious.
At the end of the day, exhausted golden’s and their
owners piled into their cars. You can bet there were plenty of snoring
pups on the drive home.
